SHORT RUN LATHE CUT RECORDS
Lathe Cut Records
Sonida Sound Recorders offers short-run lathe-cut records cut on poly carbonate.
Our lathe is a Mono 1955 Rek-O-Kut Challenger that can cut at 33 1/3 or 78 RPM.

What is a lathe-cut record?
Lathe-cut records are cut individually, one-at-a-time on a record lathe in real time. Our lathe "embosses" on polycarbonate (plexiglass) which has proven to be a very reliable and durable medium.

Traditional pressed records are cut on to lacquer using a nitrogen-cooled, diamond tipped record lathe. The lacquer "master" is then electroplated, and turned into stampers that then are used to stamp vinyl (PVC).

Pressing allows for mass manufacturing, great fidelity, but involves greater upfront costs.

If you're looking to make a bespoke, hand made piece of art then lathe-cuts may be for you!
Our Lathe:
1955 Rek-O-Kut Challenger
The Rek-O-Kut Challenger was designed for the home audio enthusiast that wanted to make recordings of radio shows or home recordings before home tape recorders became available.

Our Rek-O-Kut has been modified with an Audax cutting head for improved fidelity.
